How to verify information on your FAFSA form
  • Verifying your FAFSA information

    You may be required to provide documentation to verify the accuracy of information reported on the FAFSA. If you are selected for verification, please submit the requested documents as soon as possible. Those documents can be found on our Commonly Used Forms page. You only need to complete the forms requested.

    IRS Tax Return Transcript Request

    The US Department of Education requires the IRS tax return transcript to be submitted to the financial aid office. You can download and print your tax return transcript. You can also request transcripts of your W-2s, if necessary.

    You also have the option of requesting your tax return transcript be mailed to you. It takes about 10 days to receive it.

    You may also request your transcript by phone. Please call the IRS at 800-908-9946.

    1040CrossedOut2We cannot accept copies of Federal tax returns. The Federal Department of Education states that Federal tax returns are NOT acceptable for verification purposes.

    Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to simplify the process.

    You can bypass obtaining federal tax return transcripts by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when filing your FAFSA. You can also process a correction to your FAFSA and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, if necessary.
